ok,,,the oil that`s normally supposed to get to the head is basically sent up there in pulses, yeah that`s right, Pft pft pft pft & so on.

also if you have worn rockers or rocker bushes (depending on the type of rocker you have) then what you say is pretty std issue for worn rockers/bushes

But!!! all that said,,,"IF" you have changed out your rockers recently or had an engine rebuild by someone not very "Mini knowlegable" then maybe the rocker shaft has been changed to the later type where the oil feed hole is in the second pillar/post, these later shafts need the first 2 pillers/posts to have an oil feed/locj\k in them for oil to actually get to the rocker shaft.

so,,,there you go,,,

easy to see if your oil pump/ engine bearings are buggered is to fit an oil pressure gauge.

easy-peasy & cheap as chips

Matt, now you may have confused him more than you think..
Ben,
Whether it's an antique (lock screw in 1st post) or late (lock screw in 2nd post) setup, the oil ALWAYS goes up the FIRST rocker post.
As Matt said, maybe the rocker shaft is worn out. Best way to see is take em off, slide the rocker away from the post and feel for wear in the shaft underneath.
