whenever i drive my mini there is this horrible knocking at the firewall when i am driving in a straight line with low throttle and when i turn the wheels to any degree. this problem is making me sick every time i drive the car. i am thinking it is the cv's but would like to find out for sure, also if this is the problem how hard are they to replace? also i have cooper discs on the front if that makes any difference.

thanks in advance.

Do you have hardy spice uj's? Or the dreaded rubber coupling? I often have problems with these joints and poorly made extractors rubbing.

CV's shouldn't make a noise in a straight line, unless they are really shot. Other options are collapsed wheel bearing (but you'd really notice that) or perhaps loose - check the castellated nuts for tightness on the end of the cv's

Doesn't sound like CVs more likely the result of a broken engine mount or steady but without knowing all the ins and outs of your car is very hard to tell, why not get someone like the miniman have a look at it to be sure, it may be something really simple like a broken exhaust mount. CV joints do not usually make noises in a straight line and if they do its terminal :D
