Hi all
I am wanting to remove the black granule fuel return system out of the car ...... can i run the overflow from the carbie back to the fume pipe that runs back to the fuel tank?
Is this safe?
Any other options?
I want the space for a new washer bottle

I've got a late model carby on an early model mini, i just blocked the overflow off.

Overflow from the carby should be left open to atmosphere, but you must run a hose from it to somewhere away from sources of ignition (don't just leave it hanging above the exhaust...).

Treat all fuel leaks as being dangerous so, like stated above, just run the return line away from potentially explosive areas.

having said that though - I have seen fuel on manifolds many times over the years. It almost never catchs fire. It tends to just evaporate off instead. Most older SU carbies do leak some petrol out the choke and spindles in any case.

But what is very dangerous and the point of my comments - is a leaking exhaust at the flange and sparks - such as high tension leads that are dirty and breaking down. At some stage - after dark - go out, start the mini, lift the bonnet and see if you have sparks running all over your ignition leads. If you do - then get a new set.
