Speedo cable = died a few weeks ago. So i bought a new one and had a go at trying to almost start and try to put it in. But of cause, being very smart, i got hold of the speedo end of the cable, and wanked it, before i looked at where it was coming from ![]() ![]() Here is where the cable broke off at the engine end. ![]() So basically, its really all annoying ![]() In my hacking at the inside of the mini i suceeded in pulling all the wooden panels around the dash off, breaking most of them, and playing with the guage cluster until it wanted to fall off and die. |

It is in the deepest, darkest corner of the engine bay ![]() Standing next to the passenger side wheel, look down between the engine & firewall to the back of the gearbox. You will find the matching broken bit of alloy "thumbscrew" there. |

The fact that you just had your engine changed should be a clue..... They may have forgotten to undo the speedo cable before they pulled out your motor! ![]() |

I have a great deal of confidence in the Camel. Remember when he pulled the brake drum off his car to check the brakes? ![]() Go ahead mate, be a man, change the cable, show all these doubters what you can do. Don't forget to post pics! We can always use a laugh. ![]() |

![]() Go ahead mate, be a man, change the cable, show all these doubters what you can do. Don't forget to post pics! We can always use a laugh. ![]() Hahaha Well the car did that all by itself, it moved after i attended to it, so couldnt get drum back on. And there was the time i pulled of the carby on old motor, and spent 2 weeks trying to re-attatch some form of throttle cable, that just didnt work. But the speedo was working fine enough for 4 months after my new motor, so its nothing to do with that. And if i cant fix it, it doesnt really matter. The only reason i want a speedo is so that i can see how fast im going down the back straight at Symmons or Baskerville. |

Holy moley Camel man....what sort of Revs are we talking about pulling....I mean....watch the speedo slowly climb by all means....but be careful of the engine.....especially when drafting that GTHO Falcon down the straight ![]() ![]() |

Namibian CAMEL wrote: But the speedo was working fine enough for 4 months after my new motor, so its nothing to do with that. The damage to the cable has been caused by pulling on the outer cable. If you pushed the broken bit back in the gearbox I bet it would hang together for another 4 months.
My bet is it was damaged by the mechanic. And if he didn't damage it then he should have noticed it. ![]() |
