Hey! I'm redoing the interior of my clubbie S, and i dont really want vinyl, and after seeing Monster Minis car i thought carpet would be a nice, clean way to go and i was wondering if anyone has actually put like a thickish plsuh felt into their cars (door cards, rear bins, parcel shelf). It seems it would be easy enough to glue on, but i was just wondering wat someone who has done it would say? Thanks |

I lined the interior of a van with it once , used heavy furnishing velour but it's very similar to the heavy (not thermal lined though) velour curtain material spotlight and similar have . Don't use the really thin dress fabric but a good thick furnishing grade material . Make your door cards from scratch and sandwhich a layer of wadding between the velour and a backing material like canvas and stitch whatever pattern you want into them , then glue them to the ply or mdf you are using as the backing . As for everywhere else , I used contact adhesive , spread it on the panel and on the back of the material , when dry put them together and worked it into all the folds in the metal , looked good and was very easy , but pay the extra for the decent material , I've seen the real thin dress fabric used and it looks like complete and utter shite . |

Wat do u mean the folds in the metal? Do u have a rough estimate on the cost of this type of velour? Thanks |

Talking about the rear of a windowless mini van , plenty of folds where the windows would be if they were there , hard to explain but look at a windowless van and you'll see what I mean . Not sure of price , it was several years ago but from memory the stuff I used wass about $17 a meter and came in a 1.2 meter wide roll . Curtain fabric is wider , go for a look at your local spotlight and check out their furniture and curtain velours for a better idea , I think it might even be a bit cheaper now . |

Microsuede. I got 10 metres of black from Fabric.com. Here's a direct link to their page about microsuede. It's like suede but cotton and very hard wearing (It's an upholstery fabric). Pop into a furniture store as they're bound to have something covered in it. |

You can buy microsuede from Spotlight for about $29 per L/Meter, thats what I have my interior trimmed in, seats, Doorcards and Rooflining. |

Just be careful with suede. It does wear quite easily, and doesnt like having water on it. Been there, done that, regretted every dollar. I would go for a mix of perforated leather and/or vinyl and/or regualr leather. They last alot longer than velour or suede does - especially around the stitching. And it costs about the same. |

I'm busy pulling that plush felt stuff out of the Sunshine....Blah!... This is the other end of a poorly made decision to use tacky material. It's full of dirt, dust mites (I'm alergic to those little blighters) and holds every bit of detritus ever to be found in the bottom of a car. It's quite horrible in it's old age, and I'm guessing it was done less than three years ago, so choose the quality of your material carefully. The original material is beneath it, but I've ordered one of those headlinings coming up on Ebay at the moment to try and put in. Might be a good project for a sticky?. |
