this is why ....

These are Rod-Change Selector forks....

there us a word for these forks, and it sounds a lot like FORKED .....

I've replaced them with some Great Second hand ones i had, and the amount of "slop" in the gearbox is nearly non-existant now.. very happy with it !

Also re-did the bearings and did some Baulk ring selection to get the best fit and clearances...

Yay, my first gearbox build !! - yay me !

Cheers all

Typical shagged out selector.
Seen a few before in my travels

Pulling gearboxes apart is the fun part... the opposite isn't so fun, and IMHO should only be tackled by "experts".
(See whodat thread)

Good luck James... PS did u get the speedo drive all good?

Yea willy, i did, thanks...

I gotta say, the opposite of what you are saying.. pulling it apart was a bitch, never done one before... but putting it together.. less than an hour ...

gotta tackle that 150 ft/lb nut tomorrow morning, I just dont have the strength at the moment (and my whole neighborhood is asleep! well, it is half-past midnight!!) then pop the diff, outputs and speedo plates back on, and away we go !!

hopefully have it dropped onto the motor tomorrow evening so i can finish the engine asap ... gotta run this puppy in !

i might do that with the gearbox on the banger, which has no 3rd gear and sometimes wont engage any gear
