Post subject:  Fitting 1 3/4" su to 1 1/2" manifold
Im looking at buying a 1 3/4" SU for my mini and am wondering if it is necessary to by a different manifold, as im am currently running a 1 1/2" SU and manifold. Also, is it worth the conversion? Im just trying to get a bit more out of my 1275 motor and ths seems like a cheapish way of going about it. I was told that a 1 3/4" SU had the equivelant performance of a set of twin 1 1/4" Su's.

You will need a different manifold, but it IS worth it. Give Graham Russell a call (02) 9630 2195. He makes the manifolds and can advise you on setting it up. 8)

You can get the 1 and 1/2 manifold opened up and match ported to the head, but it might be more cost effective to buy a new larger one.

GR does a very efficient long one for the big SU but I don't think it allows an aircleaner to be fitted unless you modify the firewall (ala Weber box). I don't think you'd want to run around for long without an aircleaner.

We modded a orginal 1 1/2 manifold to take a 1 3/4 and it works a treat better power and tourque. All we mainly done was open up the mouth were the carb sits then cleaned the throats and all a ok.

As they have said above, speak to GR. He will most likely want to check out you current manifold to see if it may be cheaper for you for him to modify that, otherwise I'm sure he will sell you one of his specials.

Yeah,
Thats me with the mini ute. Its a 75 clubman van to ute conversion Its called EDS70Y because my brother used to own it and his name is ed. Ive been meaning to get it changed to OLS70Y. Have you seen me driving around before?

Around $200 from memory (might have been $220 once Peter Costello took his 10%!!)

I worked some magic on my std 1.5" manifold, came up like a ripper, actuall size is slightly greater than 1"3/4 .

The only other thing ive had to do is open up the spacer to 1"3/4 so that it clears the butterfly 8)
I'll be match porting it to my 12G202 head along with the extractors too :lol:

Just kitted my carb and added some bling, cant wait till it starts up :D
