Came across this "Works Spec" GT For Sale on the NZ trademe site...

"One of two GT Clubmans built in 1971 at Abingdon Special Tuning in the UK to Group 2 specs for NZ Motor Corporation to compete in the 1972 Heatway International Motor Rally."

http://www.trademe.co.nz/structure/0001 ... 571267.htm

Anyone know much about these cars ?

Just fascinated....

Hay, it's not about the car, it's not about the venue, it's about the people that come here. Peter Dwyer, Mayor of Hay NSW.

Is there any rally oriented reason as to why it doesn't have it's metal arch extensions?

A few years ago on one of my trips to NZ, I got to have a long close look at this terrific piece of Mini history. I believe, this and the sister car GC3 (which is also in NZ) was the last works Mini to compete in an event. The mighty Andrew Cowan drove in the Heatway 8)

Its a little bit disturbing to read that the engine has been dissassembled for inspection etc....Ohh! and it had black flares on when I saw it.....sure hope it goes to a good home
