Hey guys im thinking of starting up a new business based around mini?s and other tasteful cars. Basically starting off small doing partial restorations.
Im currently doing a full interior for a friends 850.
I have skills ranging from upholstery, welding, spray painting, cabinet making and mechanical knowledge.
Im also restoring and building up a 63 850 from ground up with a vtec engine which I plan to have a engineered subframe ready by the end of the year (currently working with an engineer on the design), and have a service in which you bring your car around and drive out with a vtec mini.
Also in my own mini I converted the standard seat into a works/cobra classic style bucket seat which looks and feels great. Looks totally original.
There?s heaps of stuff we want to do with our mini?s and sometimes we don?t have enough time to do it, so hopefully thats where I can help out.
Anyway I live in melbourne, so if anyones interested just reply in here or pm me, im keen to hear feedback
cheers
geoff

sorry about the quality of pics, will take some proper photo's shortly. you should be able to see the side bars and padding that went into the standard seat. i have pics of the before, during and finished product but cant seem to get them off my phone at the moment... also in the other pic i made a lamp bar from aluminium that's inspired from works mini's

i like the sound of that, but it would be a while before i did cause i got alot more things i'd have to do first.

also would like the seats redone in molly.

so i am very interested i just need more time and more money.

Do you have a mechanics certificate for doing mechanical work?

If not and you charge= big fines

I do something very similar. We buy busted arse machinery, trucks, cars, motorbikes etc etc. Basically anything we can get cheap, paint, service and sell. Haven't lost yet.

Go for it, and have fun!

cheers for the support guys, will have good pictures of my work coming shortly. steve e i dont have a mechanics ticket, but i'll only do things that are within my reach....eg. customer wants new brake pads and a service etc etc... anything to do with engine work will be done by a friend of mine who is a very good mini mechanic with over 30yrs exp at a reputable mini workshop
eitherway, i'll be restoring cars....i'll start off around interiors and work my way up.
when somebody wants something done i'd like to meet them (if they are in melb) or on the phone if they are interstate so we can discuss exactly what they would like done.
im an enthusiast just as much as you guys and the last thing i would do is a crap job

sounds good but stay away from mini owners, they are tightasses and u will go broke if u isolate to them, I think if u can put on enough guys to pump out top quallity work at a fast turn around time u should be on a winner, do up a show car just for comps and shows and get a few babaes to hand out flyers. the market is still in the jap turbo stuff and old school restorations. good luck i might send down my XB GT if ur any good at the spray gun.

lol yeah i know what you mean, we all like to do the work ourselves etc. like i refuse to pay anymore than 250 for a right hand tank...and for 250 it has to be brand new.
i ended up getting one for $30 but it had been in a rear enda, so i took it apart, beated it back into shape, rewelded it and sprayed it...in hours it probly cost more then 250 but its much more rewarding this way.
i know a guy who has one of 3 original phase 3 gtho's, scary but great cars. he loves my mates e49 R/T charger ....im trying to get them to have a race

prices wouldnt be that expensive though, thats why i'd like to sit down with the people and show them step by step what goes into the work. my father taught me how to upholster cars, and he did lindsey fox's cars.
the quality will impress...

Yeah! I just read back over my post. It does sound a bit shifty.

sorry bout the quality of pics etc. better ones to come, also that door card hasnt been finished yet (needs more detailing), but the on the backing's of the door card's i use aeroplane sound deadening felt/foam stuff, its real good. i didnt take pics of the seat while it was in bare metal stage but the bars get welded to the original frame and then sheet metal fill's up the sides, then the whole thing gets padded up with really high density foam and gets sculpted to fit the person well, then gets coverd in whatever fabric gets choosen.
theres a pic of a finished one futher up on the page...why did those pics come up so big?
