I have had my head in a boot all day, welding...welding...welding.

It was like a gas chamber. I have a splitting headache. :x

Is MIG gas (argon?) and the bi-products released while welding, bad for your health? :?

nope, the fumes from the steel are usually more harmful, like gal, that will give you over night poisoning
although if it does get proven it is, it will explain a lot!

Welding fume IS bad for you, whether it's the argon + CO2 gas decomposing in the arc forming ozone and stuff, or fumes from the hot metal and the crap thereon.
If you must weld in confined spaces an air fed helmet is a bloody good idea.

Argon displaces oxygen, so you get oxygen debt. Like being at high altitude, espcially in a comfined space like a boot.

If you have one of those fancy photocromatic helmets they can be slow and so you get a headache from the light. I never have used one of those without getting a cracking headache.

If your eyes are gone from flash dont drink alcohol. Your middle ear will get affected and you get sick and your depth perception will be affected - like seasick - but it doesnt stop for ages. This is from experience. Took me two days to get back normal.

Does or can the argon cause asthma as well or maybe is it more so the grinding putting a fine mist of metal in the air?

Lately after a day of welding and grinding I've been coughing and spluttering and have had a bit of asthma at night, also have been getting a runny nose, might be a good idea to wear a filter mask now.....
