does anyone know the origin of this style sumpguard? I have been told that it was a cooper s item, they weren't standard on S's... I bought one a few years ago and have been wondering. It may be a police car item?

particular features of this one are the rubber block that supports the gearbox remote, and the fluting/pressing that goes from the front to underneath it

not sure of what type but it wouldnrt help with the cooling of the gearbox

I vagauely remember that the most popular sump guard was the one that had the vertical slots at the front to aid cooling....the Cops most probably had sump guards and they were probably the ones they used as well.

Let me know when you come across one of the specially built Aussie magnesium rally items Simon :wink:

Just looking through some mini/moke books I have.

In one pic there is a factory BMC Moke, im 90% sure its the same guard on it.

Optional Extra maybe ?

The pics in the original post are definitely the standard Moke sump guard , not sure when they started using them though . You need to enlarge the sump plug hole if you want to have neat oil changes by the way ......

These are fantastic items on minis with oil leaks.

I've removed a couple with an inch of oil soaked dirt on top of them. Blah!

Heavy peckers too.

When I was a NSW railways apprentice I knocked a few of `em up (and off) out of 3/8" Duralium. Tuff stuff it was too... :P
(For those wondering, it's an alloy of steel and aluminium).

Unlike what Leprechauns say.....this a true story....BMC (Australia)/International Rally cars were fitted with highly regarded, Aussie designed, magnesium sump guards :wink: :)
