If you scroll down to 69chargeryeehaa's post he has links to car's he's painted with a roller, and they actually look pretty good . Just wondering if anyone has tried this method, what degrees of success did they have?

i guess if you rolled it on thick enough and then sanded with like 400, 800, 1000 etc you may get quite a nice finish, huge wase of paint though....at least itd fill the sand marks

Yeah i suppose it would work, but as said, you would use alot more paint, and it'd require alot of sanding afterwards to get a good smooth finish.....

alex i say go for it. if you dont have the $$ or room for a gun and compressor

i painted the interior of my car with a roller and it turned up very nice and shiny.

1) roller is one which is about 8cm long. small pored foam. not that raggy stuff you see that paint houses. i got mine from my local hardware store. red handle.

2) plenty of thinner

3) if too thick, it sticks like honey and forms flossy stuff as you roll

4) no chance for runs

if you Eff it up you can always sand it back

This car may not have been painted this way but, Rolls royces (and probably other old cars) used to be painted by hand. I think it was a certain kind of paint brushed (or i suppose rolled) onto a heated panel.
The heat would somehow take all the brush marks out of the paint, leaving it no worse than the modern day paintjob.

I remember seeing that a while back and at the time thinking something sucked about it. I didnt read it again, as i couldnt be stuffed, but I think the thing that i thought 'sucked' was probably just the time consumed when doing it that way. That being said, I have done similar things with a roller, only not on a car and with different paint.

With the right equipment, technique/know how and most importantly good paint, excellent results can be had from both rollers and brushes (and a combination of the 2).

Someone said about Rollys Royces having been painted by brush. In Europe (and starting to happen in the usa), due to the regulations in regards to spray painting, along with the associated costs of setting things up to abide by those regulations, many super yachts (big pricks like > 100ft) that are built there actually have the topsides of the hull (and possibly all exterior surfaces) topcoated via brush.......with a team of about 8 people.

and with por15 claiming you can still have outstanding results with brushes
i dont see why you couldnt do it.
