1100cc engine numbers always start with 10, right... So are there two types? The one 10yta### etc. etc. But also a 8 digit 101##### Were these 8 digit only numerical numbers only on certain cars and why were they diferent. Cheers guys |

The 101 engines are mini k/early clubman motors till 73, all fitted with remote 4 syncro boxes, the best of the 1100's in my opinion. Doogie |

They changed the code system when they dropped the BMC plate and introduced the VIN plate with a bit of cross-over with different models. With the later system each different model got its own engine prefix. The first four digits are the prefix the rest are the number, 1001, 1002, 1003, etc. |

No, there are still lots of these Oz made engines about. Used until 1975 I think then our factory went to UK 998 engines with `99H' prefix. |
