It started today driving home from school when my clubby started to like 'fart' and splutter..... it happens not straight away but when accelerating it splutters and farts little ( enough to be noticed and actually be able to feel it slowing down .... you get me??? )

i thought for a while about it being something electric but i have just replace the leads, plugs, points? ?

any ideas.....

cheers

Just a stab in the dark , did you put a resister coil on without the resister ? Also check the coil for leaks if it's the older style , had one with a pinhole that drained the oil out of it , when it got hot it'd play up but when first started it was fine . Then the remainder of the oil leaked out and it shat itself .

when i had electrical issues earlier in the year i replaced the coil thinking it was stuffed....

it was replaced with one from a pajero.... the guy from the wreckers that we bought it from said it was basically the same......

i just checked and on the coil it says its a 12V and has inbuilt transistor ? ?

Couple things caused this on my purple mini when I had that...

In the dizzy cap, the centre graphite thing on the spring, it wasnt sticking out far enough. So the contact between it and the dizzy itself varied under accleration.

Also, check your carbie. Might need a kit ? Also, check your float bowl....although float bowl, might not be enough fuel being let it ?

Just a couple of ideas.

Did you check the plug gap...
Many (most) plugs sold now in blister packs are gapped around 1.1mm (.040") for modern cars- way too much for a stock Mini ignition setup.
Should be .025"... or maybe a little more.

Also, many plugs are now resistor type. There is an `R' in the plug number. These are OK with copper plug leads, but not the suppression ones that have around 2K ohms (or more) resistance.

Use resistor plugs or suppression cables, but not both- with stock ignition.

What Jon said....and...its rarely the coil...check what you have done just recently...wot the military call "maintenance induced faults".

Plugs are hard to stuff up....so go straight to the points...are they black faced or clean???
Did you assemble and adjust them corrrectly??

How long has it been since you checked the timing??

Check your fuel filters, float bowl, and also delivery of fuel.

i had dirty fuel out of a jerry once and it made my car do this. It was driving it home from buying it to. I thought I had just purchased a lemon.
