ok where my exhaust meet the manifold there is a clamp holding it on... well that seal keeps going... and its giving me the shits... any cheap solutions ? |

If standard Mini there is no seal there, it's just a tapered flange. It takes a beating in rodchange cars (and 850s) because the exhaust pipe does much of the engine steadying. The flange of the pipe may be cracked. A repair section of pipe is/was available to fix this. There are 2 types of clamp- the bent tin one and the cast and machined type. Cast one is better if you can find one. |

yeah its kinda tapered theny ou have the clamp to hold them together... works for awhile (i use silicone crap in there) and then it eventually starts leaking.. 74 clubman were talking bout here... |

If it's been leaking bad for a while you will need a new clamp AND an exhaust pipe or the repair bit. |

hmm ok... new exhaust pipe bit it is.. how come a new clamp as well ? clamp seems alright just dirty... |

If it's the cast type clean it up, if the sheet metal type though, they are often bent. These things get red hot down there on a long run. ![]() |

probably worth changing the top engine steady rubbers too - they are there to stop the engine rocking around and putting the engine steady load on the exhaust..... root cause ![]() |

skssng i think your onto something there.... and i beleive theyre cast...they dont seem flimsy enough to be steel... |

You'll also be better off using exhaust cement in there instead of silicone (too hot for silicone). |
