I would really appreciate any help anyone can offer.

i am trying to roughly set up a set of of twin su's for the first time on a new engine so i can get it to a mechanic to set up properly.

so i have done all the recommended settings, however it will only run when the choke is out, as soon as i release the choke the engine stops.

does anyone have any tips?

Thanks

Tell us what size engine?

What needles have you used?

Have you replaced the jets?

Are they HS2 or HS4?

the engine is 1310.

the needles i cant find the paperwork, but were supplied by a mini supplier who made note of the engine size and modifications ect.

the carbies were both rebuilt at the same time and did get new jets.

they are hs4.

thanks for your help.

When you say it stops when you push the choke in, is that with a bit of throttle on or at idle?

If at idle, could be that you need to open the idle screws more. Can't hurt to open them quite a bit and then back them down.

I would put either #6 or CP4 needles in it. #6s should be near perfect on a 1293-1360 with Ramflo or similar sports filters.

i have put the idle screws right in and out, it does not seem to make a difference.

Maybe the jets need winding down (clockwise)? Also maybe a thought that if the timing is way out it will also not idle. Have you checked the timing?

The SU workshop has good section in it to decide what to do. I could scan the page and email it to you (probably highly illegal)

thanks for your help once again. BTW i am in adelaide.

if you would like to email it, it would be fantastic, i am in adelaide. i will give it another good crack this weekend with this new knowledge and see what happens.

the timing would not be perfect but it was good enough to drive with just my single HS4 on.

i will check it all again.

when you say the jets need winding down, is this down toward the ground right?

Were the carbs set up for a base "start up" by the shop that rebuilt them :?:
