Post subject:  Rotissery Question
Just about to finish my rotissery (pics soon hopefully). Just a quick question.

For my rear mounting to the car, I have 2 2" RHS spread apart, about 700mm long that will get bolted to the parcel shelf, and 1 700mm 2" RHS that I intend to bolt to the front crossmember on the firewall (ie. through the master cylinder holes on either side)

Will these panels be enough to hold the mini?

I bolted my back one through the shocky holes, and the front ones where the subframe is bolted.

Do people put some sort of locking device on their rotissery so that they can lock their mini at a certain angle or is it just a matter of balancing it at the right place?

Mine locks in. On the second picture you can see the top of the bolt on yellow stand. Better safe than sorry!

They certainly are! Two supercheap stands $160, 1x old t.v. pole "free", 2x u bolt + a couple of other bolts $10, a bit of scrap steel, and two hrs of my time.

Best time and money ever spent.

The one I borrowed for the 850 had a piece of 2x1/4" angle bolted to the MC studs and the holes where the top steady goes on LH side.
To lock it the pole had a round plate with 8 holes in, and a 1/2" bolt thru the front support.
Rear, it went thru the hole in rear seat.

Parcel tray setup will be OK on yours.
You will need a locking mechanism as it is way off centre, regardless of whether it goes thru car or thru front & rear screens.

Does it ever seem like it 'teeters' on edge though, ie. does it seem it could be knocked over easily?

Mine was fine, regularly left it hanging in odd positions. Just have to make sure your base is wide enough, mine was about 900mm from memory. I've finished with my rotissery, although I should have finished the inside roof before I took it off :roll: Too late now.

Mine was able to be locked ar 45° increments, all the way round.
If car is on its side there is a lot of weight on the locating pin, much more so if the pole is through the screens rather than the 2 Rotodip holes.

I think you can see it in my pictures, but mine used a big bolt with a captive nut on the square tubing to lock the pole at any place you want. 1 on each end with 1 also on the front mounting plate to lock the pole to the car.

ie. how thick steel plate, did you just use the 4 screw holes in the back seat to secure it? I assume the sleeve is welded to the plate and could you do the same at the front?

The rear plate is 1/4", shaped to match the back seat bulkhead and has 4 screws to match the existing holes, it's welded to the tube at the proper angle. Centre pipe is 5".
Ir's easier to mount the front like `mine' is (angle iron onto the crossmember) than mess with those firewall holes and the piddling little binnacle screws.

The centre tube and the botton tube are both in 2 pieces so it can be broken down for transport. I brought it all home in a EA Ford sedan.

However you do it, put decent swivel castors on the end frames so you can move the bastard about.

Actually this is not `mine', it belongs to a maaaate.... 8)
