OK, catching the train to work tomorrow.
I think I pushed mini too far... it was having some electrical issues (alternator not charging, due to earth or loose connections, etc.) So I wanted to fix it this weekend... but mini died this afternoon on the way back from work :(

Alternator light came on, stayed on, bright, then slowly over the trip faded to nothing and the electricals faded out too. I got home, turned mini off and couldnt even get reds, nothing. Battery is EMPTY! (have to check it using multimeter though)

ahh... well mini will be safe at home and resting till the weekend. Then MASSIVE works being done.

Peter.

PS: At least I wont smell like petrol/smoke for a few days :)

Welcome to the family..Its always the first to go and not uncommon

Atleast you the rest of the week to locate a Alternator or ge the one you have looke at. The weekend sounds like it will be time in the Engine bay finding what you have and a good clean up :?

I had this exact same problem last night. I noticed my dash and headlights were very very dim for quite some time. Last night it got so dim i could not see what speed I was doing! Sure enough it konked out as the electric fuel pump was the first to run out of juice.

Popped the bonnet and sure enough the alternator charging cable had wiggled loose. Plugged it back in, asked some random guys to push the car, clutch started and away we went. The lights as bright as ever and I can see my dash!
