Yes - I have heard of it - its a bad earth somewhere on the central locking circuit - you have to pull the door covers off and find it. Probably moisture and wear on a lead somewhere.
Presume you are talking about the Celica and not the mini.

Maybe out of adjustment , will the door unlock with the key and open with the outside handle , or does the outside handle only just open the door even when you unlock it with the key ? The adjustment for the interior handle will affect the outside handle and if it's not right the doors can appear to lock themselves and be an extremely painful procedure . ANy clubman fans near you that can have a look at it ?

Or alternatively give the mini a good wash , polish and vacuum and some higher octane fuel , perhaps some new shiny bits as well ? We all know mini's are female and can get cranky if not treated right ......

I wish I could lock my car :) but then again, I dont think I would want it to lock on its own.
Remove the door trim/skin/card and check whats happening. Its probably loose or not aligned properly.

Does it lock EVERY time you shut the door, or only when you slam it? Do both lock like this? (You dont have central locking installed do you?)
If it only locks when the keys are in it, and you get out to check something... then I agree with 68matic... it just doesnt like you

Peter.
