I am not sure what year they changed but ..... How many pipes come out of your master cylinder?

If it has one pipe it is a single curcuit.
If it has two pipes (or more) it is a dual circuit.

Hope that helps!

My 1978 Clubman 1275LS came with dual circuit.

You do know the theory of dual circuit brakes is that you can not run out of brakes......... If one circuit fails then the other will still work!

thats in theory but in reality my none of my brakes work
so i think this is more evidence that its probably the master cylinder as if there is only one master cylinder which feeds the two circuits and neither are working then the break down must be the master cylinder
well i hope

If I had known you had dual circuit brakes I would have said that the master cylinder was the problem in the other thread!!!

I rebuild my own but I would recomend that you take yours to a brake service or a mini specialist.

Yeah I thought so too- but I've now seen a few Minis that had NO pedal when there was a leak in one circuit. Latest one was 13secmini's Starlet Clubbie.. it was suckin' air into the rear wheel cylinders, a rebuilt MC did SFA to fix. 2 new rear cylinders fixed it.

I think the Mini `dual circuit' setup was just a ploy to comply with ADRs of the `70s, nothing more. 8)

yup, the Dual Circuit system was brought in to comply with ADR's.

Dont be fooled about "if one circuit fails the other will work".

There is a shuttle valve fitted in the system, which if one system fails, the shuttle moves to block it, and bias the brakes to the other system. This is supposed to allow your car to stop.

Only problem here is that you've already lost a ton of fluid. I had the front caliper on my holden blow out. I thought i had no brakes whatsoever. BUT if ya slam your foot right to the floor you could JUST feel the back brakes starting to pull up.

Much easier to jam it in first, and compression lock the car, controlling it with yer clutch.

It really is amazing how much ya can think about and get done in a short second or two when yer ring gear is clamping like a vice
