well one of our minis has no brakes has recently probably only about 600kms ago had it all done - new wheel cylinders, brake cylinders , drums, shoes etc but now it doesnt stop no brake pedal at all SO i assume its the brake master cylinder should i attempt taking this out of the car taking it to get rebuilt then putting it back on Whats the deal is this strictly a job for the pros or could i pull it off

U can get it out yourself, but you will need a pair of long pointy nose pliers. Take the two bolts holding it in, out. Disconnect the brake line. Take out the Drivers seat, get a light and crwal upside down into the foot well. Use the Long pointy nose pliars to remove the split pin from the clevis pin. Then remove the cleavis pin. Climb back out and pull out the clutch cylinder. If you can't pull it out. you have removed the brake master cylinders cleavis pin. That's when you can swear and curse.... Cheers Aaron |

Maybe I read it wrong...... Aaron, if he is trying to take the brake master cylinder out, why would he remove the clutch master cylinder? |

i had no pedal it ended up being a line had a split in it, non visible but when i pumped the pedal someone watching could see fluid coming out = no pedal at all. replace it check for that first rather than spending the $$$ on ur master cylinder |

i dont seeem to be losing brake fluid though i will check for that tommorow but im pretty sure its the BMC i cant think of what else it could be how hard is it to take off and put back on im a little worried about bleeding the brakes never done this before |

I agree with 850pvan, Find the problem first and then fix what is wrong don't fix the master cylinder and then find a loose pipe on a rear wheel cylinder or a bleeder that is undone. Is the master cylinder full of fluid? If not where has the fluid gone? Is there a puddle of fluid under the car? Is there a puddle of fluid on the drivers floor? Are the brakes adjusted? |

ok from what i can tell this is what is going on the whole car was recond pretty much except the brake master cylinder and a few other things there was a fair amount of money spent on the brakes new wheel cylinders brake cylinders shoes drums and they had a good hard peddal but when i was driving a few times it did something weird i pushed the peddal and went all the way to the floor without stopping the caer it has a little bit of stopping power just as you push the peddal a little pump the peddal near the top of its travel however after this nothing There IS FULL Brake Fluid Can not see Leaking Under the Car It just went all of a sudden within a space of about a day 
just wondering if it is realistically something that can be taken on at home |

you certainly should be able to do it yourself mate....mini brakes aren't the most complicated things around the symptoms you;ve described are VERY weird sounding  so i'm not gonna lie and say i might know what it is......just check everything over. Like i said, mini brakes aren't terribly complicated. Good luck

3 Points. 1 Don't drive the Car. 2 Call the idiot that did it for you 3 I don't think think this but it may just need ajusting. As per the adove replies check for any leaks and take the wheels off and the drums and look inside. Make sure all springs are fitted and shoes are in thier corrct spots. Drum brakes need to be ajusted. Seen as you have only done 600klms they will need ajusting but not to the extent of no brake pedal. It may be the master cyclinder and can be done you'reself as per the first reply but when you're upside down in the foot well go for the one on your the left. The brakes will need bleeding after not really that hard. Last thing. Do you find you have you have brakes when the Hand brake on

yes well, you would be right there, but when i did it, i was pulling out the clutch, of course i pulled the brake one out... i was retelling what happened to me. Sorry. |

yeah thanks guys i will give it a good look this today and over the weekend the guy who did it is in Bundaberg and im in Brisbane sooooot i cant take it back easily but i dont think it was his fault anyways as theres no pedal at all the handbrake still works as normal |

Handbrake works as normal does the peddel feel firm when the handbrake is on. I do think its in the line. Could be one of the nipples  could be a little lose
What ever happens you will need to Bleed the brakes
