all the mg ones that ive imported have the electronic dizzies,am led to believe that some of the first ones(around 84) did have points but im not 100% sure on this.
cheers josh

ps these dizzies are readily availiable but are only suitable for a plus

i think there is a thread in engine mods on differences b/w block types
probably the best motors for performance upgrades as they had rolled radius crank not prone to cracking, thickest webbing of all 1275 blocks, and generally speaking not had the guts thrashed out of it like most aussie motors floating around these days.also getting very hard to obtain worldwide as yanks/poms/europeans/aussies all want them for nothing but are realizing that they are running out and prices will go up. just as a note currently going for 300 to 500 pounds for a runner in uk on ebay

pps i do have 1 of these motor/gearboxs availiable standard bore for rebuild $1000

fairly sure all the MG metros's got the electronic dizzy, there are two types though. that austin metro had points, its only the A+ metro engines that have the electronic ones(mg and vdp).
A+ dizzys with points suck! the points are like $30 a set! (but are a pretty shade of blue)

A Nissan Pulsar D4R85 dizzy fits nice into an A+ block, with just another 3 secs of filing for the dizzy finger clamp, and fitting A+ drive dog.
And it works great too. 8)

As for the A+ blocks vs A series 1275, many A+ were factory sleeved due to porosity- these are not the best thing if building a big bore motor.
So say Graham Russell, and TheMiniMan..

jbeenz, I have a Lucas 59D, ex A+ motor- you are right, the sliding points do suck, but are only A$8.42 a set here in Sydney... :D

there is much dissagreement, depends on what you want to do with it. if its out of an mg metro it has a big valve a+ head, which is nice, and a cam similar to a 544, which is okay too. its a nice engine if you dont want to mess with it.

Just to clarify the dizzy situation:

All MkI Metros (up to 1984) had points (Lucas 45 or 59 or Ducellier) with the exception of the MG Turbo (59 electronic).

Most MkII Metros (1985 on) had the Lucas 65 electronic. Even in 1985 all 1275s had it (well, except the van) and the 998s got it some time later.
