Just bought a job lot of rebuilt gearboxes , rebuilt motor and a ute load of new and rebuilt parts , the gearbox on the rebuilt 1100 is a 22G1128 and has hardie spicer joints . I'm a bit rusty on IDing remote change boxes but to my way of thinking it's a basic remote change 4 synchro box ? ALso has a temp sender (I think it is anyway) on the front of the gearbox housing . |

yeah, 4 speed syncro with "REVERSE LIGHT" switch --->(Not Temp sender) could be a MK2 "S" box tho, check the leygear number??? |

Ahh OK , thank's Matt , I'll be stripping it down again before using it (I don't care if it's supposed to be rebuilt , I'm checking to be sure) and will check then , just seemed a bit odd for someone to have put hardy spicers on it but then again it's not difficult if you have them or the diff sitting about to use them . I thought it was really odd to have a oil temp sender on the gearbox but couldn't think what else it could be , see what happens when you only play with rod change or 850 boxes ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Could also be an 1100s gearbox as well. My wife's has that on her 1100s with original loom wires leading to it. |

By what I've been told, that serial number simply means it is a 4 synchro box, not necessarily a Cooper S box. It is inside that counts. You will need to identify the gears. |

If cluster gear is stamped 22G1040, it's a Mk2 S. Having Hardy Spicer joints indicates it might be one, but the gears are the clincher. ![]() |

Stripped , checked and rebuilt the cheap motor with the unknown gearbox today , 20 though over 1100 never been started since the rebuild , std bearings , spotless crank ..... WOOHOO .... ![]() The twins came with the motor , air cleaner I had sitting around and extractors are from my van . ![]() ![]() Not sure but I remember someone saying factory cooper s cam's had two rings cast onto the blanks , anyone know if that's right or not ? ![]() |

That part number rings a bell with me. GT maybe? Agreed on the "insode that counts" bit. I believe you are right re: cam with rings on it. |

GT box exactly same as Mk2 S box, with 22G1040 cluster gear in. re the cam, 3/8 lobes with 2 rings (spider drive) is a Mini or Morris 1100 automatic. 3/8 lobes with 2 rings (pin drive) is 1100 Sprite Mk2. 1/2 lobes- Early S with 5/45-51/21 timing had no markings 1/2 lobes- Later S with 10/50-51/21 timing had 1 ring. My source- Vizard, p262. |

That would be it then , any ideas if it's slightly better than the equivalent 1100 mini cam or similar ? I'm definitely liking this job lot of bits ![]() |
