Post subject: | Electric fuel pump??? |
My mechanical fuel pump is leaking like a sieve and therefore i am thinking of replacing it with an electric one. However i have absolutely no idea on what i need in order to do this, obviously i need a pump, but do i need a pressure regulator or anything like that? Its for a 1.5 inch SU on a 998. So if anyone can tell me what is needed and how much it will roughly cost to swap it over it would be greatly appreciated. cheers |

You can get either a `Facet' 3.5psi solid state pump (I've run 2 of 'em for years, no probs) or there is an NZ made pump (SU copy) or a German one (similar). Last one available from Karcraft for $127. They also have a `silver top' Facet pump for $141 or a copy for $93. None of these need a regulator, but if you get a higher pressure pump, it will. |

i have one of each of the 'facet' pumps (a round one and a square one), oh and a nz made su copy. the little solid state facet(square one) is great! as long as your float boal dosent leak, the round one is good too, but is bigger to mount. and the su copy is...well....an su copy id go the square facet, just make sure you use the rubber mounts, otherwise its damm noisy, mines in the boot, so you will need some feul hose, and a plate to block off your old pump, oh and some wirinig and it never hurts to have a switch. ![]() |

The ones at supercrap arent crap they are german made ( =good ) so no they wont need replacing and I'm pretty sure it is 3.5psi so shouldn't need a regulator. Just check as there is different pressure ones. |

While you are there get a blanking kit for the old mechanical pump - costs bugger all and will release the 0.000002 hp taking it off the camshaft drive lobe. I say definitely do it as it frees up all the space you need to get that pesky speedo cable nut orfff!!! I have an OEM and has been pumping since 2001 but think it may be time to replace it Hooroo Rob Forsyth Miniot!! |

I mount the square Facet pumps on a Mini centre exhaust mount (a perfect fit) then drill a 5/16" hole thru the centre web of the subframe. This shuts it up good, you cannot hear it with engine running. ![]() Here's the 850's during rebuild, wiring shown was for testing only... |
