Hi all

I just had my car painted in 2pak. but i didn;t get the inside boot done, as its not going to be concorse(spelling?). And i want to paint the boot in the same colour. Is it possible to get the same colour mixed up in acrylic and then paint myself. I know it won't have the same finish, but with a bit of polishing it will be close.

No reason why not, they can match anything- but I'd do it in 2 pack... not acrylic.
The 2 types are not compatible paints really. When putting 2 pack over acrylic, you need to do the whole car in 2 pack primer/hi-fill.

Enamel and hardener any auto shop will do eye match. Do you have one you trust?

that's what I use for my engine bay jobs.... automotive enamel is really easy to paint and get a decent finish with, and you get an additive that goes with it (8:1) which hardens the paint more than just straight enamel and makes it less chip'n'scratchable..... so I believe, but I could be wrong... I do use the stuff tho

I pay $15 for the matching, and the price of the paint depends on the colour - dad's bright red was $30 ish, and my camino gold was $25 ish... plus thinners and the hardner solution which I've only bought one lot of for the 2 colours (nearly out of thinners)

it's still normal car paint, sprayed with a compressor and spray gun.... but easy to do at home with basic gear and no experience necessary - my engine bay still looks good and it was the first thing I painted, now I've done dads it looks really good too

Enamel paint is what used to be used before acrylic was invented, which was before 2pak was invented

Enamel is easy to spray. I would use either. You wouldn't notice the difference between them in the boot. Should paint your tank/tanks as well that would look really cool.

My red cost more than ny other colour because red is a 'group 3' colour which doesnt actaully csot more to make but it takes the paint maker longer to make as red contains morew tints or some rip off crap like that. Of course i used acrylic for my car but if your car is 2-pac, a 2-pac book would look awesome but enamel is higher gloss than acrylic so go with the enamel.
