Post subject: | Tuning the carby - Mixtures |
Howdy, I have got a single SU. I was told by the mechanic (mate) that its running way too rich. He couldnt adjust the mixtures right away and I had to go. Reckon I can adjust them myself? Is it hard? 1. To adjust the mixtures I need to undo the slow idle screw until it goes into fast idle. 2. Then, adjust the jet nut under the carby until I get desired mix (too lean, it'll stall, too rich and it'll miss and splutter) 3. When happy, return the slow idle screw to where it sounds right. Does that sound right? Peter. |

whilst by no means an expert sounds about right Looking down onto the Carbie (straight onto the dashpot) if you turn the mixture screw clockwise it will richen it and turning it Anti clockwise you guessed it will lean it out by turning it you dont need to turn it by huge amounts to make a difference turn it one or two flats then try it ( By a flat i mean the Flatt parts where a spanner would grip onto) hope this helps Cheers Gadget |

Wat u should do is bring the idle up to around 1000rpm. On the side of the carb body there is a pin, lift that pin up about 3/4's of its travel, if the engine speed increases and stays high then the mixture is to rich, if the revs fall and the engine sounds like its going to stall then its to lean. The revs should rise and then fall back to about original. Then the mixture is ok. Provided u have the correct needle u can wind the adjusting nut fully lean, then back it out 2 1/2 turns rich approx. That is a good starting point. |
