Post subject:  SPAX adjustable fronts
Bugger.....meant to post this in the morning but forgot....

Anyway, I have a set of adjustable shocks on the front. The adjuster is kind of a flat washer set into the face of the shock, with a slot running across the face, then in the middle of that is a little screw (screwing into the shock). The screw loosens clockwise smoothly for a bit, then starts to move in quarter turn 'jumps'. Going clockwise again it does the jumps then eventually tightens smoothly again.

How the hell do these work??!! Is the little screw the adjuster or the big washer thing. How do I turn it?

I know this is a really bad explanation, but I'm hoping somebody who is familier with them will know what I'm on about!

i have minisport spax 28pts, thes loosen off to a hard stop and then tighten up in clicks every 1/4 turn. (i only have rears, wana sell your fronts?)

Heh....the front of my car would collapse ;)

My rears are also adjustable but from what can tell it's done by compressing and turning at the same time - which means removal...which means tank out....crazy. Is that normal?

Ok the 1/4 turn click thing sounds the same....I'll try it at both extremes to confirm there's a difference. Nowhere near 28 though I don't think - they will be an older set though.

that sounds like koni's i had in an xr4i, they were adjusted by a tool on the top...was easy tho, no tanlk in the way. are your rears spax too?
just wind then anti clockwise and see if there is stop(should be), mine dont have a stop at the clockwise extreme, you hav to count the clicks till you reach 28, (i think clockwise makes em harder?)
are we talking coilovers or normal shocks here?

No coil over. I can't remember which way is harder now, but it's written on the dust cover.

There's a definite stop clockwise, but not sure anti clockwise - I didn't want to go to far and break something.

When I got the car the last owner gave me a pamphlet all about adjusting them - have to compress and turn, then keep turning etc then release to disengage adjuster. I had thought this was for the front but the front have the external knobs so I think it's just the rears. They have no instructions or brand, but do have 'adjustable' stamped into them. No idea how you're suppose to adjust them on-car....seems kinda stupid.

Mind you, I'd probably only worry about adjsuting the front anyway....just want a weee bit softer on public roads. Damn near broke my spine driving it last week :lol:

heheh, i know the jaring feeling! im from northland! :D
the stop is probably on the soft end, a cant remember which way to turn them and my car isint with me so cant go look, but id bet that it stops at its softest setting.
as for the rears, that sounds interesting! haha

crap I hope the stop isn't at the softest setting...'cause that's where they were! :lol:

The cones are probably 40 years old too which won't help.....
