OK, a little tale of my naivety...

I ordered some Wood & Pickett arches from the UK 2nd of Feb, 60 UK pounds, no quote for shipping but figured it to be pretty expensive, saw people quoting $250 here.

So I had forgotten about the order. They never charged my credit card... I figured I must have goofed typing in my credit card number or something... until today they show up out of the blue... check credit card on line... charged $287 a few days ago. Ouch.

Jumping into the first currency converter on the web, 60 pounds == AU$140. Where did my other 60 pounds go for that speedy 6 months delivery time?

How did they know when to charge my CC so that they charge would show up just as they arrived?

hmmm appears they have only just got to your order and airmailed it straight away, some items can come over from the uk pretty quick (ie about a week) so if your card was debited about a week ago that might be what happened.

I wouldn't be too chuffed at all and would be letting them know for sure what I thought!!

hope you can get something back from them

Probably out of stock over there and have sent when become available 60 pounds is actually over 140 dollars and the rest would be freight costs specially if they used one of those supposed cheap things like fedex or the like

I forgot to add that at the end of the order confirmation email:

Quote:
The items above are in stock and are usually dispatched within 5 working days.

Not wanting to be a jerk, but possibly not the best idea to hand over your CC details without first finding out a definite final price??

But to answer your question, that is unreasonably expensive ( or at least I would've thought so) :?

You are dead right Bob, like I said naive.

It's nearly 6 months ago so it's hard to remember all the details.

From my experience ordering other things online in .au, the postage is either added to the tally in the order form on the web site, or in the order confirmation email (in which case you have a chance to cancel the order) or in unusual cases someone gets in touch via email.

This is what I received in the confirmation email Feb 2nd:

I was assuming that someone would be in touch with me shortly since I was already in touch via email with them, and delivery charge was obviously not going to be zero.

I guess the warning bells should have gone off when I first tried to order. The website threw a fatal Cold Fusion error half way through the process and I was left with no indication of whether my order was successful or not. Had to get in touch via email, and was advised to retry.

They've obviously forgotten your order and only just picked it up on their backorders last week, or they didn't have them in stock at all.

I just ordered a Smiths tacho in April and have not received it. I hassled them about it and was given a tracking number. This is the message I got back when I plugged into the Royal Mail website:

Your item, posted on 24/05/06 with reference RIxxxxxxxxGB has been passed to the overseas postal service for delivery in UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.

I have asked them to kindly send me another one ASAP. :x

EDIT: Saying this, this is only the second problem I have had in 12 years and about 50 orders from the UK.
