Post subject:  help with carby
My carby isn't functioning at all properly... :? Ive fully cleaned it out and it looks fine but when you turn the car on it revs incredibly high and even with all sorts of ajustments and stuff I cant seem to get it to rev nicely. If I get it to a nice level and step back it will just rise in revs then decrease again.... 'hunting'

So I dont know if its the actual carby or just my lack of knowledge in the way of tuning it correctly. Any Help would be greatly appreciated!

If anyone wants to lend me a hand and help me out it would be an awesome as I can't take the car to a mechanic or mini place.

water dammage?

is the piston sliding properely? check that the butterfly is closing properley?

just check everything is done up and functioning properly .... first rule of fixing things - do the simplest and quickest checks first....

Rule 1. Don't replace anything unless you know it is stuffed. :lol:
Find the problem and then fix it. Don't replace things and hope you are fixing the problem.

Have you left anything off the carby or manifold? (like hoses or pipes?)
Did you leave out the gasket between the manifold and carby?
Have you left the throttle return spring off?
Have you got the throttle hooked up properly?

spray some CRC/ WD-40 arround the intake manifold and carby. DO this while the car is ON....see if there is an air leak.

That would be the best bet, spray some carb cleaner around the general area of carb and manifold to see if revs increase. That will confirm an air leak. Ensure oil is in the dashpot, ensure there is no water in the carb. Ive had water once on the piston!!!

i took my linkages off one night, throttle cable, choke etc.

next morn in traffic the car would suddenly rev real high. i tightened the throttle cable too tightly and when turned on, car would rev up and up and away

noticed that the accelerator cable was probably done up too tight do adjusted that and there was improvement but the engine was still increasing and decreasing in revs..

then changed the oil which was in the carby from brake fluid to transmission fluid and noticed more improvement..

and then as you guys said, sprayed some rp7 around the manifold and correct, there was a bit of a leak..so just replaced the gasket and ..BAM! idles/revs nicely :D Sounds awesome

now its just the clutch to fix :?
