scott wants to know if anyone knows whereabouts the wire for the switch on the door for the interior light comes out?

He pulled his passenger door apart the other day to fix the door handle (you couldnt open it from the inside) and while he was doing it he noticed that he had an interior light switch in there. Now the interior light has never worked, so he thought he'd find out why. the problem? No lightglobe. HOwever it doesnt turn on when you open the driver door. Now he doesnt want to pull the passenger door apart again and look at that in case he loses that wire, and his bible has vanished.

Can anyone help? I dont really likke having him dictate stuff for me to say on MSN.

The wire for the interior light comes out through a hole into the cabin. The hole is at the far right and left vertical sides of the parcel shelf. A wire from the driver's side switch makes it's way to the wiring loom by going all the way accross the parcel shelf. If you hook your fingers behind the top side of the lower dash rail it should be there. It meets up with the other wire on the passenger side and then continues into the rear wiring loom up to the interior light.

All it does is ground the other side of the light fitting when the door is opened.
I'll drop in a photo if my vague description is hard to follow.

Many thanks, Mick! You gave me a good idea of where to poke my home made hookie thinga. I eventually found the wire!

Door switch from jaycar, which I cut down a bit. Had to file out the big hole just the smallest little bit to make the screw hole line up! 8)

Both doors now turn on the light, WEEEEEEEeeeeeeee!

Rover switches (made in Malta :shock: )work good in both roundnose and Clubby, cheap at $7.04 each from Karcraft- so why butcher it for generic ones... :lol:

scott reckons you file the hole down the ottom by half a mm. Still within the outline of the original switch :wink: :wink: jaycar ones: $5.55 for a pair :wink:

Cheapskates... :lol:
The Rover one has a copper tag and is earthed by a screw, it might actually still sit straight & earth properly in 20 years- unlike Clubby ones... 8)
