Having pinging problems with my van. I've change the plugs leads, dizzy cap, I left the points cause they looked fine, but still might replace them and the condensor. The problem is it's pinging at higher revs (well high revs for a 35 y/o stocko 1100). The problem is inconsistant, but more often than not the problem is there. If the problem is there, it varies from undrivable to almost nonexistant.

So... I was thinking it could be that the needle is worn?

What's the standard needle from a HS2 on a Mini K 1100?

EDIT/ When the problem is really bad, it's right through the rev range.

More than likely the advance mechanism in the dizzy has had it, as you say it's 35 yo.
Time to get thee a Pulsar dizzy... cheaper & better than fixing the old Lucarse!

ps. worn needle will make it rich, less likely to ping..

How "bolt in" is a pulsar dizzy once modded? Do I need to play with the advance curv or anything (I don't know how, ya see!).

Mods are detailed in the dizzy thread, or on J_A_M's site.
Basically bolt it in, fire it up, set timing with strobe light. Tear up and down the road and have a fiddle.
Advance curve is pretty good stock. Haven't fitted one yet that didn't go better!
