Now I know I'm ahead of myself here, since I haven't finished building the engine, but I'm going to have to think about what carb to use to run my motor in. Motor will be 1360, small valve head but ported, RE13 cam, maybe a lightened flywheel. On my 1100 I currently either run a 40DHLA Dell'orto with 30mm chokes, or my trusty old 1.25" SU on cut manifold with ram tube and performance air filter. I'm thinking the 1.25" SU would be too small. The Dell will be the carb I will be using on the 1275 but it would need to be dyno'd for the motor, hence I'm not sure I want to run the motor in with it.

I also have at my a pair of twin 1.25" SUs, more-or-less rebuilt, but I haven't run them on the car and I don't know how well they work/run. And I don't like fiddling with twin carbs. I also have an HIF38, which I've also never run, it's half of a twin carb setup off an MGB and unfortunately the throttle linkage acts in the opposite direction to a standard HS4 and therefore I can't use any of the standard brackets.

So I'm open to peoples opinions, what has worked for you? I also have a few spare HS4s, I guess I could throw one together, the problem is I don't want to be ironing out bugs in a carb I have never used before on a fresh motor.

You may as well set up the dellorto from the start, the running in will be the easiest the motor gets treated as you may rev it a bit but won't be doing a lot of high speed stuff, you might like to increase the choke size for the bigger engine and may need to go a little bigger in the idles to start with, i have some 32 mm chokes here if you need them you can have em free as they are just gathering dust here
