Post subject:  clutch arm

Took the 1275 out today and chucked the 1100 in the van. Started and ran beautifully first turn of the key, but clutch wont adjust up. I put a new clutch kit in it, so Would I be right in assuming the arm(ball at the bottom), is buggered? I have a couple of others in teh shed, but I ran out of daylight. Just wondering if There is something I am overlooking? I adjusted it as per book. I have heard of people hitting the arm (once out) with a bfh, but I think I will swap it and see how I go. The thickness between the new and old clutch plate was alot, so I assume I am on the right track?

I had a lot of trouble coming to grips with the clutch throw out arm adjustment the first time I did one because my comprehension was a mixture of reading and pre-formed opinion.

I ultimately found it best to get a non mechanical person (SWMBO) to read the section from the manual and then explain to me what they thought it said. I listened without interupting and tried it t their way and guess what?????? Good clutch first up.

Wont work though if the clutch plate is in back to front though.

Both of you stand in front of the mini and take the measurements as it is being explained to you.

Also - make sure you do have full hydraulic action before you do any thing radical. You have disturbed that area as well

The clutch will only work over a small frame of clearances. Too little clearance to too much and its just not going to work.

Stuck the oxy/ace torch on it and gave it a whack with a hammer (whilst it was out of car). Bled the clutch, and it works like new! :D
