And if not why ?

I was a member for a year, but since im not in Brissy it was a waste of my money. I contacted the club about getting my car on club rego, as i needed it to be dated by some 1 from the club as proof it was more then 30yrs old, so that the DOT would be happy. I was almost abused by the guy that i spoke to, he accused me of just joining the club to get the benifit of club rego, cause i was never going to attend a meeting cause im in cairns..... So i had no dramas in not renewing my membership!!!!!

Hanra - isn't it right that on club rego you can only drive your car on club events anyway???

Anyway Roundy I have nothing but good things to say about MOCQ - friendly, helpful and the runs are a lot of fun.

Only bad thing I would have to say is everyones name is either John, Bob or Bill - and I am still confused.....

I'm a member. Have been since 2001 with time off while I was in London. It is a great club but I've stopped going to the meetings. I found the meetings so frustrating with all the pointless fighting over the mini van, trailer, BBQ and accounts. I go to enough meetings for work that I can do without pontificating old farts in the evenings.

Most of the time I feel welcome at the club but there is a core of them who are concourse Cooper S snobs who deride anything not a Cooper and anything modified. My modified "bath tub" built on a budget doesn't do so well in their judging.

On the other hand the magazine is great and the website is also good.

The club just needs a few more people willing to organise morning runs in the mountains.
I'm not complaining. I haven't got time to devote to the club and those that do are doing a good job.

The correct response should of been " I am sorry you had a bad experience with the club registrar and I will ask some questions of the club to see it does not happen again"

As for driving on club events only its not true you can drive on other clubs events as long as the MOCQ is invited to be a part of the event

As someone who has started a Mini Club from the ground up to have any official make stupid remarks to someone making a request is not on, specially when the member is over 1000 klms away and was asking for a service the club provides to its members no matter where they be

Restricted Vehicle Use under this scheme allows for :-
Participating in rallies organised by a properly constituted car club.
Participating in processions for which permits have been issued under the Traffic Regulation.
Exhibiting the vehicle in displays, fetes or similar functions conducted for religious, charitable or educational purposes.
Use for ceremonial purposes in weddings involving immediate family members, provided this is not done for remuneration.
Preparing for, proceeding to and returning from the above activities.
Road testing within a 15 kilometre radius from the place where the vehicle is garaged.
Travel in order to have the vehicle repaired. There is no distance restriction in these circumstances, but must be reasonable and justifiable by the driver.

Oh and no I'm not a club member.

Thats the clause that i wanted to fit into. Ive driven my car twice all year. 15klm radius from my place gets me to basically anywhere i would normally drive the car around Cairns. But whoever i spoke to at MOCQ gave me a smart assed answer saying that "Wat are u going to road test ur car each and every time u take it out for a drive?" Even if i persisted to try n get the car dated the guy made it very difficult for me, saying a needed to take video footage of the car incl ID plate, also needed still pics as well (obviously) Then carried on about having to have a JP witness and sign the taking of the pics.....blah blah blah blah.....

I was so over it that i cancelled my membership and now continue to pay full rego on a car that never gets used... The only other real car club up this way is the All American Car Club of Cairns. I can join that but dont get a say in any matters relating to the club as i dont own an American car!!!!

This is wat the MOCQ website says on 1 of there pages:
(You must be a member for 12 months and attend 6 events in that year to qualify to have your car dated for Concessional Rego)

SO really wats the point of any1 who owns a really good Mini who lives somewhere other than Brisvegas to join the club?

The chance to be able to take up classic rego is one of the major drawcards of joining a car club, plus the dating of the car must be done to keep DOT happy in order to get classic rego!!!

I don't think that the club should be able to dictate how long you must be a member before they will sign off on the age of your car. That is rediculous, and it's no wonder that with behaviour like that people are thinking twice before joining. I'd thought about it a few times, but after hearing reports like that, and Mokesta's comments I think I'd rather not.

I'm a member of the club and have been since 1999. I think most clubs have times of dissent but on the whole, all run fairly smoothly and we, as club members, must all try and do our bit to keep it this way, after all it is voluntary work. However, it is a bit disturbing to read of the treatment meted out to Hanra as I have been at meetings where membership has been discussed and mention made that anyone, anywhere is welcome to join our club. It seems the welcome mat was pulled from under him. This may make an interesting topic at our next meeting in a couple of weeks.

According to the MOCQ's quite punitive rules on club rego, they really need to change the name of the club to = Mini Owners Club of SOUTH-EAST Queensland. And I am a member with Mk 1 S on club rego in Cairns.
What they are propogating with club rego rules is frankly immature and ridiculous.

I've spoken with Brad (Hanra) about his experience and offered to talk to the people I know in the club to see what I could do. He said don't bother, really turned him off.

The other thing I don't understand is the insane anal retentive attitude towards dating vehicles, must have all this stuff . . . But I ask, which round nose minis with external hinges in Oz aren't over 30 years of age now??

well the main reason i started this thread was to see if i was the only one that thought the way i do. But it,s not because i agree 100% with Mokesta. There needs to be more day runs or half day runs or observation runs but it seems to me that the bulk of the members are 40plus (don,t take that the wrong way you older guys) years old who want to go on long drives with staight roads in their cooper s's only.
I have asked some of the guys on the commitee to see why this is and the response i got was that the club was a family orientated club and thats not the path THEY want to go down.

The anal retentives are the government employees who decided on the rules and from what I can remember when we had them out at a club meeting to explain the concessional registration to us, my impressions were that they would rather not have any car on concessional rego ergo why they make it so hard to get.

I dont know if the people in charge of this are still there, my dealings with the club were about a year n a half ago! I spose there is always the chance that things have gotten better? But unfortunatly there is not much benefit in me paying club membership just to get a magazine every month or so......
