ok maybe a stupid question but off of my brake master cylinder i have to pipes (dual circuit and these two pipes lead to a little short cylindrical thingy that is on its side
the pipes go into this and then go out of the bottom of it again
Is it something to do with the amount of fluid that goes to either system

It's probably a FAM4670 regulator valve, controls/limits pressure to the rear brakes so they don't lock up. Used on tandem brake system (late Clubbies) only. Early cars with single line brakes had a limiting valve on rear subframe instead.

<edit> One of Leyland's little mysteries is why the threads in this thing are 10mm, and all the other brakepipe threads are 3/8" UNF.... makes it interesting making new pipes up!

I'll agree with Doc again, I reckon it will be yer Brake Proportioning valve. It's what sets your brake bias(most likely about 70/30).

If i ever get around to upgrading my brakes, I'll be fitting an adjustable one hopefully(adjustable from a little tap on the valve). Just be careful, coz if they're adjustable, they must have some form of locking the adjustment. It's illegal to have adjustable brake bias from inside the car.

Only if they find it.... 8)
Would be pretty easy to mod an early one and have it under the rear seat... really, the early ones can be put anywhere in the main rear brake line.

yeah i think its the regulator valve i just removed the break master cylinder and i was just wondering if i could disturb the regulator valve
also i noticed that when i took the master cylinder away there was a gasket type thing under it just wondering if i need to replace with you gasket == i mean in between the actual body of the car and the master cylinder

If you don't want wet feet then replace the gasket. The gasket is there to seal between the master cylinder mounting flange, the mounting plate and the body. If you dont replace it water can get into the car when you wash it or worse when you are driving in the rain. Wet feet and a wet brake pedal rubber are a bad combo. Same applies to the clutch master cylinder.
It also reduces the amount of brake pedal freeplay and in a worst case situation can cause brake problems if the piston in the master cylinder isn't allowed to return properly. If the piston doesn't return fully it can block the compensating port and cause dragging brakes or excessive brake pedal travel.
