| Post subject: | My mini was broken, but now fixed |
Driving home on last Wednesday, my mini decided to contribute to the act of breaking itself, i dont know the exact details, but i will take some pictures and find out the complete details whenever i can, and when i get back to the internet one day soon. Its undriveable in its state now, so im pretty much just going to cry about 
but probably shouldn't 
But its not good though.

It's a sad story of worn U-bolts 
Hopefully he can get it sorted so he can drive back to Uni... |

.. Yes it is, I assume the new U bolts that have had at most 2,000 miles done on them. The mechanics put it up on a hoist, cause whe i took them for a drive they couldnt figure anything out, But the right wheel arm was extremey wobbly, and the bolts were that worn that they said it was not safe to drive. I dont know the exact names of the parts all involved, or what they do, but i knew when you could move the wheel arm at the transmission in circles of more than a centimetre of its central place, that is not good.

Yeah, but if they were a thousand Camel words you'd probably be better off without them!! 
That sucks Camel; after all the time and money. Hopefully it'll be back on the road again soon! |

Well here is the thing. 
bad picture ataken at night, but dcant be bothered getting a better one now, i wouldnt even definately what it is or where it goes and how, but i know its not meant to be smashed liket that, Its very worn, and there are holes and wobbles in it everywhere. On the road it was so wobbly and made big griding and banging noises at anything over 90km/h, but now its fixed and is feeling great

Camel Didn't you just have a motor put in? Why would the people or who ever, not put in new uni's unbelievable. I mean really unbelievable. It wasn't you was it? Steve |

There is no real build up of mud, grease or oil on them and they dont look old and cracked. They do look chewed up as though the u-bolts were not properly tightened and not rechecked after the wheels had been rotated a couple of times to let them settle into position. Camel - they dont look old so could well be newly replaced. Just not enough atterntion to detail by the installer. Even new U-bolts would look pretty second hand by this stage. |

Well they seem quite flimsy, and you can see the broken bit, and there are lots of holes in the metal, that are cracked and worn and wobbly, I wouldn't blame anyone, cause i dont know enough even start asking why didnt you do this, this way? Mechanics did put the new motor in, not me. Im not really too concerned, about who did what and who didnt, as its all fine now, but it wouldnt want to happen again

Camel we all think you are lucky not to have chewed the back of you new motors gearbox out which is what can happen when this occurs. That would have been a real bummer. Lucky boy Steve

Im not really too concerned, about who did what and who didnt, as its all fine now, but it wouldnt want to happen again I think the concensus is that you have been dudded Cam....I agree that they look new and were probably installed incorrectly....might be a good time to vote with your feet and find a better Mini mechanic

Hmm..yer it does look new to me also..Hmm bit of bad luck and very lucky it did not turn out woese. As you said you arn't to worried and not blaming anyone..and moving on.

But also check , or get someone else to check that the other side and now the new one as well are tight now you've driven on them . |
