i called SHANNONS Insurance today to change some details on my policy.

anyway, while i was talking to them i thought that i would find out how much i had the mini insured for (has been a while since i took out the policy)

anyway, for another $6k value on the car, the only extra i pay is $2.65 a month!!!

Im stoked about that!!!!

should i ask what other people think about there insurance companies?????


So far SHANNONS have been great with me...............


But i havent made a claim, so of coarse they are gunna be nice, right!!!!

Can I just say that NRMA are the biggest bunch of #$*^&%$ ever!

When my wife wrote her car off, they **** us around for months, and ripped us off BIG TIME with the pay-out sum. With the NRMA you insure your car for say $6000, but when they pay out on a total loss, you certainly don't get $6000

And with Shannons with a total loss or damage, you generally get to retain the wreck. Other companies may let you bid on it, or not...

BTW be careful with companies that let you insure for `market value'. If you crunch it big time, it is in their interest to string you along- the longer they avoid paying you, the less the vehicle is worth so the less you may get.

N*** took around 8-9 weeks to pay my mate out, on a 2 year old car... he was not happy, Jan.

I recommend mini owners look at GIO Classic car insurance. I insured my GT for an agreed valua of 10K with a premium of $295. Shannons quoted over $400! (they took into account a claim I made 12 months earlier in my Pulsar, whereas GIO didn't)...so, my one and only experience with Shannons has not been good....

GIO are good and I had them in QLD when I was there. The Shannons mob did the right thing in taking into account previous history as it is to assess if they are taking on a risk or not(not casting dispersions on you of course). They do it as they have to mitigate risk with previous history and the likes. Personally you should let bygones be bygones IMHO...lol. They tend to be a little morre anal in this area too...

Shannons here in ACT did me a great deal as I updated my face value from $5k to $8.5k and only increased the cost from $375 to $390(pay by the month of course!!)

yes, happy to make friends with them again. However, I would point out that by your own firgures ( your car - $8K for $360) they are still more exie than GIO (my GT - 10$ for $295).

Mines with Shannons 12k = $ 165

Mine's with Shannons - when I got my mini I called a couple of places and they all said 'nah, we don't really do comprehensive on cars more than 25 years old, I mean we do, but we don't y'know - go to Shannons'... so I did.

For sure - but GIO here in Canberra wanted $900 for the same value - it really depends on who you get and what mood they are in. AAMI wanted $1000 - highway robbery - and then they proceed to tell me they dont do cars over 20yo!!! Then why the hell did you ask me all the questions for??...lol

Insurance agents arent real smart...teehee

From my experience with classic cars (Borgward Isabella) you have to shop around.

I was driving the car as an everyday transport including to and from work and Shannons wanted $800 to insure it for $14000. I got my insurance through Vigil for around $350.

Once I no longer drove the car everyday but only as a show/weekend car, Shannons dropped to $180!

Shannons definately seem to have a preference for cars that are only driven for pleasure not everyday.

With the ease of internet quotes these days there is no excuse not to shop around.

Eh, I'm quite happy with my arrangements - $205 for $6000, and 25 (some places I rang had 27 as their 'younger driver' cut-off); and abolutely minimum hassle getting it all set up.

When I did look around, though, most companies wouldn't do an online quote (it was all 'enter your phone number and someone will call you with your quote within the next three business days') there were a very limited number of companies that would insure an older car - which ones do, for the record?
