Post subject: | bmw gauges |
i think im going to fit some bmw gauges to my car, i like the orange numbers when they light up, my only concern is how do i go about the speedo cable etc, i know beemers run on 16's to 18's and more, so a ten inch wheeled mini wouldnt be good in that way... would be doing a hundred and reading 180 odd. or so i would think.. is there any way of getting around this? |

![]() The only realistic way to do this, unless you are an electronic whiz and have access to BMW test gear, would be to fit your old instrument internals in the BINI instrument housing. Current BMW instruments are all electronic and the heart of the system is the instrument panel. Its full of electronics, microprocessors etc. They don't have speedo cables anymore. The speedo input is provided by either a sensor in the diff, which counts the crown wheel teeth (early 90's), or from one of the ABS system sensors which is counting the teeth on the ABS ring at one of the wheels. Cruise control also uses the ABS system to monitor speed. Hope this helps RonR |

Sorry, have to disagree there. They look like cheap plasticiky replicas of old mini gauges. I don't think it would be cheap to get it all working. But Its your car, so do what you want. |

A. LazyGoodForNothingSmartArseKnowItAllBackYardMiniMechanic ![]() ![]() Isn't sniping him off ebay enough, now you are out sledging him as well?! ![]() ![]() BMW bikes are different, plus thats for performance, not just for making it look like a BMW... I guess I don't mind people putting bini superchargers on A series motors either - it's like a nice big 'screw you' to binis ![]() shatever floats your boat tho... |
