Hokay...

I'm putting a new engine in soon and it'll be done by yanking the whole subframe out.

That's not the issue.

What else would people recommend i do while i've got the subframe out?

I'm already getting a rebuilt rack (i actually need that), but is there anything else y'all can think of that'd be worth doing?

Would it be worth giving the engine bay a freshen up (bit o' sand, bit o' paint)

the bonnet lip is a somewhat bung aswell...

Definitely clean and paint engine bay , so much easier when there's no motor or subframe in the way . Also check for any rust and fix it while it's easier to get at as well as rustproofing etc after painting .

Definately paint the engine bay.

Soak some CRC on the two bolts holding the accelerator pedal in.
Then leave them for a day or two before undoing them & tightening them back up. If you snap them off because they are seized (like I did) then the only way to replace them is by dropping the subframe. PITA :x

this might sound minor, but replace your fuel hose. you can't get to it when the engine is in. if it is as old as the car you're just lucky it hasn't split.

Cheers

Did you finally blow up that poor stressed motor?

nope...

just want a to be able to drive the car without worrying about *clutch/rev/engage* everytime i want to go to third... and it means i can get the rack sorted...

proactive would be a good word for it...:) look it up :P

For you, Michael.

def. "proactive"; controlling a situation by causing something to happen rather than waiting to respond to it after it happens

I think Matt means the metal fuel line, not the hose on each end.
Yes I'd check it. If it's cactus you can buy 1/4" steel fuel line by the metre from Robbos Spares or wherever. it's easy to bend by hand if you don't have a tube bender.
