hi all i know its been asked and answered but whats the thickness of sheet metal to use to patch a mini body boot floor area mainly and i am getting the patch welded in Butt welded but im not welding so i want to cut it all and get it sorted so he just has to weld when butt welding do i cut the patch exactly the same size of the hole or do you make it smaller by a few mm or larger?? |

In the boot floor, I would use 1mm thick steel. The floor pan is thicker than the side panels, which is about 0.8mm thick. If you make the replacement patch about 0.5mm smaller all the way around, the weld will fill that gap. It won't be easy to cut to shape, nor easy to weld as there's a good chance of burning through, but it should be a nice repair if done right. |

its just a matter of taking your time when doing welding. hopefully your welder knows what he is doing on light sheet steel |
