My mini has started running crap. The plugs are wet and black which I figured means I'm running rich.I have recently installed extractors and a new exhaust so I wasn't too suprised however when I try to adjust the carby I find I have to actually richen the mixture to keep it running and using the pin underneath suggests even then its still lean. I changed the manifold gasket incase I damaged it putting on the extractors and checked for any other leaks, still no change. Reset the timing, new spark plugs, leads read between 1.7 & 2.1k ohm,new fuel filter. replaced the throttle shaft to get rid of the slop in it and cleaned out the carby. What else should I be looking at at this stage? It was running ok for a couple of weeks after the changes to the exhaust. standard 1100 motor, 1.5 SU, pulsar dizzy, 3-1 extractors. |

Did try changinging the needle. It had a AAA in it and I tried a ADE which should be leaner. Air filter is a Ramflo which has a new element in it. |

I have a similar set-up: 998, ramflo & LCB extractors and i found that an ADE was too lean for part of the range and had flat spots. i am using an ABX which has been filed (not by me) and this is quite a lot better, although it is now a bit rich because fuel economy is down. I bought a few spares from someone in the UK - about $30 for 5 different brand new needles so i am going to tweak it a bit and mess around and see what works best. I might still have the email address of the guy i bought them from if you are interested |

I know I'm probably going to have to play around with different needles but I'm not convinced my current problem is due to it. It was running fine but has now has become virtually undriveable. |

what kind of symptoms has it got - is it idling ok? are there flat spots in acceleration? etc. |

Sorry to come in late but changing your exhaust and extractors will make the engine gulp more air, therefor the previous needle may be too lean as now there is more air and original amount of fuel. When changing extractors, is it not common practice to change the needle and check the carb situation? Running too lean is bad as it can turn out your valve seats and overheat your engine. Generally lean is worste than rich... |

Generally lean is worste than rich... My problem is I don't know which way to go.The plugs seem to say I'm running rich but the carb setup seems to indicate I'm lean. I have to turn the mixture adjustment a fair way down to get it to idle but then the plugs are wet and black within a few minutes. It was running fine for a couple of weeks with the extractors. |

It could be an ignition problem, or something other than fuel, particularly if adjusting the mixture doesn't help |
