Post subject:  High level LED brake lights

I just fitted another `Hella' LED brake light, this time to Barney.
Same as I've had on Ha-Ha for the last 4 years.

These things work great and are dead easy to set up. :D

If you set it up for drum brakes,

should you set it up so only half the lights come on??

Or should they start to dim after 50 meters?

No, you should put more than one brake light in!

That's really bizarre. I've really been wanting to fit one of these lights, and here we are...

Did you just buy it from Repco or Super Cheap or similar?

I got this from Autobarn 3 years ago- I've just been slack fitting it....

It's Hella, p/no 5239,

Watch it there are 3 different ones for different rear window slopes
. Each has limited angle adjustment.
<edit> this one would suit a Minivan, too. 8)

Repco or Supercrap can get them, but Autobarn had in stock. I think I paid $43 back then.

Just got my rear brake light, doc. Did you mount it at the bottom or the top of the rear window? Pics?

I mounted it at the bottom, but top would be OK except I have the thru-glass antenna there.
Before mounting. take the cover off and move the LEDs angle to the max.
Sorry no pics yet.
Connect to the green/purple wire on RH rear lamp. using the crimp thingy supplied.
Earth the black wire- I put a lug on back of the RH boot support cable top bolt.

Make sure to read the instructions.

If you mount it at the top be willing to not see any cars more than 50 metres behind you in the mirror - sort of like driving a mini van with the centre of the doors blocking your view. :D

yeah i kinda thought about if it was at the top, it would block most of my rear-view view.

cheer, doc for the wiring tips. will post a pic when its all done

I installed mine today. Works beautifully. Comes on before the normal brake lights because it is LED, and it's nice and bright. I'll take a pic of it tomorrow.

I highly recommend all mini owners install a high level brake light. Adds that extra bit of safety our tiny cars need.

BRG, with a tipple of yellow added.
We had to match it again because the paint on LH door went crazy, lucky we still had the old tin with a bit left to match.
