When i went to take the wiper switch out of my old mini i noticed that it didnt 'click' into its 3 positions properly.

So I opened it up (expecting to see a spring out of place or something) but nope.

My question is what is inside there to make it work properly? Am I going to need to buy a new switch here?

I can put up a pic if you guys dont know what im talking about :)

The contacts can corrode or wear out, refurbishing them requires building up the contact again with silver or similar material and linishing it down to a nice flat surface. Not very easy unless you are pretty skilled with a set of jewelers files.

Check that the 12 volts is getting to the switch and then getting out of the switch as well just to be sure.
