So anyway, my wife and I have just purchased our new home and I need to get my Mini to the new garage.... the new house is only about 10 minutes away.

so anyway... the mini has no interior what so ever and has no glass.... do you think i could tow it to the new house?? (the brakes work fine) or will the fun stoppers object?

or..... is their anyone on here who would be able to help me out with a car trailer? I live in Ballarat, Vic.

Dont worry to much about the fun stoppers and to be honest if the fun stoppers say anything or look perculiar at you...

I think that in Victoria, we are allowed to tow an unregistered car on the roads - I think, I think . Call in to your local cop shop and ask the question.

I brought my mini from Albany to Perth (450kms) in the tray of a 75 series trayback landcruiser ute. Perfect fit. Mind you, the tilt tray setup was the only way to get it on there without a gantry

I can only speak with any authority on NSW but I think other states have similar laws.

In NSW it is illegal to flat tow any unregistered vehicle. The vehicle also, must have operational lights, brake lights and turn indicators. Either from the tow vehicle via a light bar fixed to the towed car or the towed vehicles own lights.

Also the only legal way to tow any vehicle is with a rigid bar that is fixed to a tow point on the towed vehicle and fixed to an approved point on the the towing vehicle. Usually it is a tow bar and the rigid fixed length steel bar has aHayman Reese type tow hitch bolted to it.

Most of these laws came because of two separate fatal accidents in 2000, where in one case a towed vehicle snapped its tow rope and plowed into an oncoming motor cyclist on the wrong side of the road. The towed vehicle had brakes that were faulty. Both the driver of the towing vehicle and the driver of the towed vehicle were given prison sentences.

In a separate inciden, an elderly woman was killed when she stepped out, on a pedestriancrossing, in front of of vehicle flat towing another vehicle. The towed vehicle failed to stop in time and puched the towing vehicle into the woman. I dont know the outcome of that court case.

Two hours or four hours hire of a trailer is cheap compared to that above
