Hi people, I am in the process of finishing off my resto. Does anyone have a rough idea how much it costs to get a subframe blasted and powder coated?? Also does anyone reccomend a place to get it done at?? I live in melb. cheers Rob[/quote] |

Sorry, was 10 years ago so I can't remember the cost. I can remember the sand stuck to grease under a bulge in the powercoating on my rear sub frame  Not too happy. So please check the quality of the blasting before they are coated. I just handed mine over fresh out of the car and picked them up after coating. Mistake, but live & learn.
I found it heaps cheaper to get lots of stuff done at once. Subbys, suspension components, seat frames and sump guard all black then a bunch of calif bits in white then windscreen frame and dash in silver. You end up getting all the little stuff done for virtually nothing. M |

Yup the same, chuck stuff in that you weren't even thinking about getting powder coated, it's soooo cheap as a job lot. BTW it cost 200 to get every bracket, subframe ,control arm, backplate, plate you name it on my mini to be blasted powdercoated in gloss black as a job lot. BUT>..that was 9 years ago now, and labour has gone up. |

I agree with most of what has been said so far. I would spray everything with degreaser first and then hit is will a high pressure water blaster after letting the degreasing soak in for 10mins or so. The guy I took my stuff to wouldn't touch it till it had been degreased. I would power coat it though. Powerder coating is too flexible and if you get a crack in anything, you won't see it till it's too late because the paint stretches and hides the crack.. |

Better still, save yourself the hassle of making sure everything is absolutely spotless (as it needs to be for powdercoating) and see if you can get the parts soda blasted (do a search, there's a few threads on it here).

Likes been said, make sure there is no oil or grease anywhere because when it goes in the baking oven the grease or oil can leech out & stuff the paint Just had my front Mini/Suzi subframe done with a heap of brackets $125 all up Blue |

My 2 bits says paint it with thick chassis black paint. Easy to recoat, easy to spot rust. |

has any one ever galvanised their subframe before? I was thinking about doing this and then painting it, then I would not have to worry about the rust monster for a while
