Post subject: | Mini Engine Change Weekend |
The story so far Harvey69 (aka Tait) is a year 12 student and his mini has given up the ghost engine wise. I have a shed full of mini engines that I have collected and that mostly been given to me. I have a soft spot for kids at school especially those facing the HSC in very few weeks. I said I was happy to give Tait one of these engines so he can get on with his HSC and not be sidetracked with the mini issue. Since then I have approached about doing this as a mini engine change training day/weekend. I like the idea. I have all that is needed (tools etc) to do the job and have done it a quite few times now. I dont think its fair to Taits family to have a group of people they dont know trooping in and around their house so I am looking for a shed/garage somewhere in the south side of Newcastle that has good light and a flat concrete floor. It also needs to have enough room to move around in with an engine hoist whilst a mini sits with its front end up on jack stands. I think we can handle a maximum of five people who are willing to get their hands dirty and listen as well as learning. A couple of things though. 1. I am not a licensed mechanic. My experience is entirely self taught (others have helped me) 2. There is no public liability insurance, nor will there be. Anybody there is there as a volunteer and although the object is to do the job safely, everyone is there at their own risk. I would happily welcome another experienced mini person as its always good to bounce ideas around. Now - I live some hours away from Newcastle and I cannot arrange a suitable place in Newcastle from Gulgong. I am appealing to novo casstrians for help on this. Whats does everythink ??? How can we make this work.??? |

That's a damn good idea Mike , congratulations to you for helping out like this and also offering to help the others with info . All my weekends and spare time is booked out till the end of the year unfortunatley or I'd be up for giving you a hand and bringing the engine crane . |

16th of september would work for me. 17th is gannons park and also a state round motorkhana. Most of the weekends prior to that are taken up. Now there is a possibility of druing the week for me, but that probably doesn't work. Cheers Aaron |

16 Sept good tentatively for me. I am not available for 23-28 Sept but will see(could be going to a really big sandpit for a little jolly). Either way I am keen and my experience is by trial and error - but that is half the fun!! ![]() Hooroo |

Subject to Tait and his "old man" etc agreeing - how about Sept 16th - I would need for someone to feed animals here so I have to arrange that. My wife says she would quite like some time on the coast - shop, perhaps fish etc. Is there a caravan park near Toronto ???? Others may want that sort of accomodation as well. Tait just how old is this "old man" you have discussed this with ?? *s* I will send you a list of things that you must have prior to us getting there But its simple stuff - gaskets, seals, oil filter etc. Starting to look good |

I don't think Tait will have the time off during the week though, after all he is at school. Cheers Aaron |

I will wait until Tait comes back with an answer on that date - Sept 16th - that is. Gina already has said that a couple of days on the coast would suit her fine - lots of shops, water to look at and even perhaps wet a line in lake macca. From next wednesday I am helping a mate in a shearing shed for 4,000 plus sheep. Should take about 10 days to finish. |
