Keep watching the news for an ATM theft somewhere around you ..... Really a pain in the ass and it doesn't seem to matter what you do to stop them either , if you fit a really good immobiliser/alarm they normally do too much damage and torch it to cover their tracks instead of stealing it , either way you lose . Hope the insurance company doesn't give you the run around with it . |

cheers honk - yeah we have fair suspicion that someone from near you decided that it was too much effort to walk home after a night out with their freinds in wullahmullah. i happen to have my own personal security force scouring the usual places in Redfern as i write ![]() funny how after 16 years of frequenting the area (mate lived on Forbes st and i work down there now) this is the very first incident that has happened to us, but it really could have happened anywhere. i'll also be keeping my eye out for cheap 2.5turbo engine and transmission packages. |

Thats a frustration for you. Mostly though - the stolen car turns up within three days. A friend had a car stolen a few years back. It was missing for over a month. It finally got reported in when a resident in a wealthy suburb finally got sick of trying to reverse past it coming out of his driveway. The car was oringinally parked across his driveway, with the engine running, the lights on and the radio blaring. All the windows were down. He originally drove it clear of his drivewaybut apparently not far enough. Of course, the ran out of petrol, the battery went flat and the car sterted to fill up with water from the rain. The resident tried to moved it frther from his driveway but it wouldn't start. After a month they finally rang it in - my friend went with a policeman to recover the car and the resident was all good neighbour until the policeman gave him a rocket for a car that now had thousands of dollars damage that was not attributable directly to the theft but to neighbourhood apathy. Like i said, 90% get returned within three days and basically undamged. |

It wasn't a mini - just an ordinary car - but still he was working, had a morgage, couple of kids and no second (third, fourth, fifth - like some of us) car. He still had to get across suburbs to get to work and then home again. When a car gets stolen it usually creates all sorts of problems for the owners. Its even worse if its found burnt or just never found. The insurance companies are fairly slow to pay out in those cases. I know somebody else who got into financial troubles and he paid someone to steal the car and make sure it was totalled - it took him nearly a year before the matter was settled and it was a market value settlement - not what he was expecting from it. Was a very unwise thing to do all round. |

MY mums friend has had his car stolen 6 times, and has, amazingly, got it back in one piece every time. The thieves always dumped it after it ran out of petrol. |
