Well my car is regoed and back on the road, but my brakes are shocking, apart from the fact u need to pump them once before u expect them to ACTUALLY stop, although that takes enough time by its self, apart from adjusting them, which im going to do 2nite, is there anyway of improving the braking ability minus switching to disk brakes???? Thanks |

The fact that they pump up mostly says that it is an adjustment issue. The pump simply pushes the shoes out the extra fraction until it is in contact with the drums. If you hold your foot on the pedals and it begins to sink to the floor then it indicates that air or a leak is in the system. Whats brakes are they - early 850 single leading shoe or latter twin leading shoe type. The twin type are markedly better but even those are fairly dismal if you hop out of a commodore with discs all round into a drum braked mini. Some of the drum brake pundits on here have got them to work very well but it is an issue of good round drums, good shoes and careful adjustment. The early minis raced at Bathurst on drums so they did work once. |

we have bleed them quite a few times, we fixed all the leaks that we can see and i cant feel the peddle move once its down completely, we replaced the pads, its a 78 S, its got the twin piston M/C. I hoping its the fact it hasnt been drivin, as in really drivin in about a 10 months, means its just teething and once they are adjusted again, after a couple of days of driving it should slowly get better |

Try using the brake bleeding method mentioned here: http://www.ausmini.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=21350 It worked for me 
having to pump the pedal may also be due to having air in the system. i had a similar problem on my car and using the method mentioned above it is all fixed now |

did u eva fix your brakes totally???, cause most of the time my wheels wont lock up?? If you did did u find air was stuck in the brake lines?? |

Yeah, i think they are pretty much fixed now, the last bit of air must have worked its way out. I didn't work out where the air was coming in, but it must have just been sitting somewhere and bleeding using the method suggested by MiniMan must have got it out. The car is on jacks in the garage at the moment  , so i can't check exactly how good they are, but they are definitely a lot better than before. if i press the pedal hard i can't get it to the floor and it doesn't pump up anymore which means all the air has escaped. I haven't tried braking hard enough to lock up the brakes, but i should be able to since i can't push the pedal all the way to the floor anymore

u serious cush???? I always thought it was the it was the most left one, im sure of it, yer the peddles go accelerator, clutch and brake!!!!! Dam does that mean my gearbox is fine too??????? |
