it scares me that you can even think of so many things to do with someone elses rego number but i dont have to worry as there is only one of my kind of car in the country 
so if they get pics of me doing any of that it is me

Just wondering why some people block out their number plates on photos. What exactly can someone do with your number plate details? |

The normal is to make up a copy of the plate (normally painted or stencilled) if there car is similar to yours and then steal petrol from a servo , speed past a speed camera , do anything they want you to get blamed for basically . Or use your rego for their car , a police number plate check will show the car is registerred if they don't notice it's not a genuine plate . Also , if someone has a friend in the motor registry or anywhere else with access to rego or insurance (the "address where the car is normally garaged" question ...) details they can get your address and find out when and where to get your car from by watching ..... |

Was discussing it with a few mates not long ago and that's the list we came up with , one mate had a lot of trouble proving it wasn't his commodore that went through a speed camera even though it was the same colour and plate . The fact his had a different spoiler and other things didn't matter , it came down to being able to prove his car was 300 klms away at the time ... |

a lot of people have a modified car and don't want their description of the modifications associated with the rego of the car for defect or insurance purposes...... |

As a reverse to this - I know a person who had three white Mk1 cortinas. All three were two doors. One was a rally car with a lotus twin cam engine. The other two wern't as significant. Only one was registered and I was never sure which one it was but all he did was swap the number plates to the car he wanted to drive at that moment. The rego sticker was on the quarter window and that was also swapped from car to car. He argued that with an older car (as they were then and not nearly as valuable as they are now) that police and RTA wern't overly worried about them and used to say when was the last time a police officer ever lifted the bonnet to check the engine and body numbers against the sticker. He also claimed that if they did he could just say he either just rebodied the car or re-engined it and hasn't had a chance to have the details changed. 1310/71 - you know who i am talking about here !!!! |

Yes, I do. I knew someone in Bathurst with a couple of mini's who used to do the same thing on occasion. These days though, you'd only have to be in a minor accident to be in deep doodoo insurance wise, not to mention legally. KB |
