Gday folks, I'm doing a project for uni at the moment, its on mini pistons. I was wondering if you guys have any pics of standard mini pistons that you have from rebuild or whatever. Also if you know of any design faults of the standard pistons i would appreciate it if you could pass on your knowledge. I will reference anything that goes into the final report. |

850 pistons with the split skirt are quite weak and won't stand high-revving (as mentioned in vizard's books). I don't think this is a design fault as i have heard that it will make the car quieter when the engine is cold because the pistons slop around less and it was obviously done on purpose. I have some 850 pistons lying around but can't get pics because they are 170km away ![]() I can probably get you a pic of a 1275 piston but i don't really know anything about it apart from that it may be a low-compression piston as it has quite a deep dish in the top. It is also pretty dirty |

Thanks for your input, If you don't have any pics already don't worry about going out and getting any, just if you have any pics already. I saw a nice pic from Chong's rebuild that would do nicely. Is it ok to use this Chong? |

gday there. ive got a picture of a piston from my original 998 piston...it split all the way down the middle due to the ID stamp ontop of it...a Letter ''A'' went too deep and in time eventually proved fatal for the piston.. I dont have the picture on this computer, but u can find it in the ausmini.com members gallery. the heading i think is "why my 998 died" or something like that ![]() l8er. |
